A new acquaintance:

On Monday ETHEL will meet and improvise with award winning Native American flute player Robert Mirabal. Robert's In the Blood CD recently won "Best International Album" at the 9th Annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards held Nov 30th at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. He's quite an interesting guy - musician, composer, painter, master craftsman, poet, actor, screenwriter, horseman and farmer...I love his description of his own music:

"My music is informed by the ceremonial music that I've heard all my life. What I create comes out of my body and soul in a desire to take care of the spirits of the earth."

It's wonderful to hear a musician describe his work so poetically. We really look forward to meeting him.

Frasconi's Perspective:

Miguel Frasconi discuses musical life in New York and Toronto. He makes some excellent points.

Farewell to a great musical mind:

As you probably know by now, Karlheinz Stockhausen passed away this week. On an Overgrown Path provides a wonderful look at his "position within the bigger picture of mid-twentieth century culture." Very well done - definitely worth reading.
